The Military Vaccine Agency - Vaccine Healthcare Centers Network (MILVAX-VHCN), merged into a single organization 1 October 2013. They are located in Northern Virginia, supporting DoD vaccination programs protecting Military Service Members, their dependents and beneficiaries; and provide educational support and training resources for DoD healthcare providers and clinicians.

Mission

To enhance the Military Health System focus on health and healing by supporting immunization program efficacy, safety and acceptability, and enabling solutions that address personalized medicine and improved evidence based practices.

  • Promote excellence in immunization standards of practice.
  • Provide dynamic and responsive expert clinical and consultation services supporting quality immunization healthcare policy & practice.
  • Advocate for evidence based practice improvements in immunization healthcare.
  • Deliver best quality immunization healthcare information, educational resources/tools and training services.
  • Support enhanced population vaccine safety surveillance & research.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies and activities.
  • Contribute to the body of knowledge in immunization healthcare through public health investigations, surveillance & clinical studies/research.

Immunization University

A major component of the MILVAX-VHCN education and training vision is “Immunization University”, an informal collection of guidelines and training resources to help staff make every immunization an excellent one. Designed to enhance the skills of healthcare workers from a variety of backgrounds, Immunization University (ImzU) offers training on vaccine products and immunization services through on-line distance learning and on-site classes sponsored by MILVAX-VHCN. CE Credits are available for on-site training events. Certificates of completion and consolidated student transcripts are available via the ImzU LMS, and may be accessed online.

  • The MILVAX-VHCN ListServ is a bimonthly electronic newsletter sent to ImzU registered users. It includes important information about DoD vaccines, immunization policies and practices, training opportunities, and other vaccine-related information; as well as the latest ACIP and CDC guidelines and recommendations.
