August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM), which is focused on increasing awareness about immunizations that are recommended for an individual’s entire lifespan. Regardless of age or occupation, immunization health should be maintained throughout one's lifetime, from birth into retirement.
The Defense Health Agency Immunization Healthcare Branch (DHA IHB) aims to provide comprehensive immunization health care and prevent illness in uniformed personnel, military beneficiaries, retirees and employees. Immunizations continue to change and new vaccines are released each year, so it is important for health care providers to continue to share this important health information throughout their patients’ lives.
Your participation in the 2016 National Immunization Awareness Month activities will help ensure the success of this campaign. To assist you in your planning, we have created a list of NIAM resources to serve as an educational reference for the entire DoD family. It is designed to assist organizations coordinate National Immunization Awareness Month promotional efforts at their medical treatment facilities (MTFs). It also helps educate consumers and health care workers about childhood, adolescent and adult immunizations.
