Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Training 2015-16
     The Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Training curriculum is an online course that will provide military and civilian healthcare personnel with important and comprehensive information concerning the influenza vaccine. It is designed to prepare healthcare personnel to administer influenza vaccinations and perform required administrative tasks in support of the DOD and USCG’s Influenza Vaccination Program. This curriculum includes 5 training modules and a Quiz. It is designed to meet seasonal influenza vaccination training requirement for medical personnel administering influenza vaccinations.

Influenza Cold Chain Management for Logistical Personnel
     The 2015-16 Cold Chain Management of the Seasonal influenza Vaccine for Logistical Personnel is an online training module that will provide non-clinical personnel (i.e. pharmacy, logistics, and support staff) with important and comprehensive information concerning storage and handling of the influenza vaccine. It is designed to prepare healthcare personnel with handling of the influenza vaccinations and perform required administrative tasks in support of the DOD's Influenza Vaccination Program.

Storage & Handling Training
     This is a 4 module online course (note that the second module has been split in two parts), plus quiz, that will provide military healthcare personnel that administer immunizations with the proper vaccine storage and handling procedures that should be followed to ensure vaccine potency and stability.

ImzU - Webcasts
Course Description

IHB is hosting a series of webcasts on vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases of military interest. Our goal is to provide an engaging series of live, on-line training events. Our presenters will include both military and civilian experts, speaking on topics of interest to the "Vaccine" community.

These presentations are directed primarily towards a military audience, but are open to everyone with a IHB Immunization University (ImzU) Account, via the MyImzU interface. The presentation schedule will be available several months in advance, however registration for each monthly webcast will opened only after completion of the current months event.

The sessions will be approximately 45-60 minutes long, and consist of a 30-45 minute presentation, followed up by a question and answer segment. They will be streamed live to your computer desktop via Adobe Connect. The audio will be available only via VOIP.

The primary audience for these presentations are those responsible for and involved in DoD vaccination programs; health care providers, vaccinators and clinic supervisors from immunization clinics, logisticians, preventive medicine specialists and those involved in local immunization policy development, hospital training departments and other healthcare staff interested in increasing their immunization knowledge.

Immunization Program Leaders Course (IPLC)
Course Description

The Immunization Program Leaders Course is a two day course designed to ensure credentialed healthcare providers, clinical managers, and other senior leaders understand responsibilities for the successful management of an immunization program.

Mission and Objectives:
The Immunization Program Leaders Course is to train credentialed healthcare providers,clinical managers, and other senior leaders to provide quality immunization services, exhibit competency when participating in risk communication activities, and exercise good immunization program management techniques for medical personnel assigned to administer immunizations in the clinic.

Who should attend:
Participants should be the credentialed providers (Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants), Nurses, and other healthcare personnel who provide direct oversight and management of immunization activities.

Course Training Objectives
IPLC Students
  • Identify the clinical policies and procedures for the management of an immunization program
  • Differentiate methods to improve the quality of vaccine delivery and address immunization issues
  • Discuss clinical emergency management and treatment of Adverse Events related to immunizations and tools for reporting such events
  • Discuss principles of mass immunization and travel related activities
  • Differentiate between Vaccine Error and Adverse Event Reporting systems
  • Develop and demonstrate techniques for immunization risk communication

Standards for Quality Immunization Practice Course (SQIPC)
Course Description

The IHB Standards for Quality Immunization Practice Course (SQIPC) is a one day course designed to ensure healthcare personnel are trained in vaccine policy, vaccine safety, effectiveness, and the standards of military immunizations. This is designed in accordance with the immunizations and Chemoprophylaxis for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases, Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) guidelines and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations for Immunization practice.

Mission and Objectives:
The mission of the Standards for Quality Immunization Practice Course is to provide evidence-based content to promote healthcare personnel development or performance of safe and effective Immunization healthcare delivery.

Who should attend:
Participants should be medical personnel involved in direct administration of immunizations, including Nurses, Corpsman, Medics, Healthcare Specialists and Immunization Technicians.

For infants, particularly newborns, exposure to vaccine-preventable diseases can result in serious and often, life-threatening illness. Unfortunately, all too often, parents or other family members are the source of exposure. Dr. Shetal Shah, a Neonatologist with the Stony Brook University Medical Center, will share his innovative work in addressing this public health problem through the promotion and administration of vaccines to parents in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) setting. After watching this broadcast participants will be able to: Explain the role the NICU can play in the public health protection of neonates, Describe NICU-based administration of influenza vaccine, and Describe protocols for Tetanus, Diphtheria, Acellular Pertussis, (TDap) Vaccines.
